10 Things That Happened for the First Time in 2024
They say there's a first time for everything. (Except déjà vu . . . and the Cleveland Browns winning a Super Bowl.)
The "New York Times" has a list of 24 things that happened for the first time EVER in 2024 . . . and they covered a lot of bases. Here are a few of them:
1. Scientists detected water on an asteroid's surface.
2. The PARENTS were charged and convicted in a mass school shooting.
3. A pig kidney was successfully transplanted into a human.
4. An extreme marathoner finished running the length of Africa . . . from top to bottom . . . running around 10,000 miles over the course of 352 days.
5. A street-food taco stand in Mexico got a Michelin star.
6. Saudi Arabia hosted a swimsuit fashion show.
7. A former U.S. president was convicted of a felony. 34 of them. Not that it mattered . . . because then, America elected the first president who's been convicted of a felony.
Also, Donald Trump became the oldest person elected president, eclipsing current president Joe Biden. (For now. If 100-year-old Jimmy Carter can hang on, maybe the Democrats nominate him for his second term in 2028?)
8. Scientists observed an orangutan treating itself with medicinal herbs in the wild.
9. Breaking made its Olympic debut . . . but it was short-lived. It won't return to the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
10. A father and son duo played in an NBA game (for the same team even): LeBron James and his son Bronny, who was drafted by the L.A. Lakers over the summer. (It was kind of a stunt though . . . Bronny wouldn't be in the NBA without LeBron. At least not right now.)
