A Britney Spears Fairy Tale Musical Is Coming To Chicago This Year

2016 iHeartRadio Music Festival - Night 2 - Show

Britney Spears is getting her own musical — and it's arriving this year!

The pop princess will see her upcoming play, Once Upon a One More Time open late this year, theater owner James L. Nederlander announced via the New York Times on Tuesday (March 12). The theatrical project will be a musical comedy "featuring the song catalog of Ms. Spears … that explores an alternative arc for some classic fairy tale princesses," Nederlander explained.

Although the 37-year-old certainly inspired the production, the story will not focus on her life but rather provide "a revisionist look" at a "fortnightly book club whose members include Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty, is working its way through a collection of the Grimms’ fairy tales — the only book they have." However, things take a turn for the surreal when "a fairy godmother brings them Ms. Friedan’s feminist classic, The Feminine Mystique,” and their lives are altered in unexpected ways."

Helmed by Kristin Hanggi and choreographed by Keone and Mari Madrid, the project will include 23 of Spears' records, from hits to "a couple deep album cuts." Per the report, the "Work" musician has also been involved in the project, having attended one of several readings for the musical.

Once Upon a One More Time — set to open November 13 and run until December 1 — goes into production in Chicago this fall. Previews will begin on October 29 before the show's eventual transfer to Broadway.
