Sarah Jessica Parker is opening up about the abrupt end of And Just Like That.

In a new interview with CBS Mornings on Thursday (October 2), Parker spoke on the "difficult" decision to end the Sex and the City sequel series and give her iconic character Carrie Bradshaw a send-off fit for the groundbreaking series, per E! News.

"It was a very tough decision," she said. "I'm not sure what that decision means 'cause I could just be on hiatus. But it was a difficult decision."

While fans were shocked to learn AJLT was ending after the third season, and even the cast members themselves, she said that writer and director Michael Patrick King put a lot of thought into the decision and realized the show should end when "things feel really right" rather than fizzling out.

"I think Michael thought a lot about it," she said. "And I think it's out of respect for this singular professional experience that you have to consider what you want to do and have you done it. And sometimes it's best to gracefully walk away when things feel really right and energetic. Instead of squeezing and exploiting people's generosity and hospitality."

King revealed August 1 that AJLT would conclude at the end of the third season, which was still airing at the time. Following the announcement, the show's stars reflected on their journeys with their characters across two series.

"Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years," Parker wrote in a post on Instagram. "I think I have loved her most of all. I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion."

"It has been such a delight from start to finish. I will miss working with these people everyday SO incredibly much but know we will always be a part of each other's lives," Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes) said in her own post while Kristin Davis (Charlotte York) thanked fans for their support and praised "our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love."
