Honey Smacks Cereal Recalled

Oh no! Heads up: the FDA warns against eating Honey Smacks cereal due to salmonella outbreak. Over 100 people have gotten sick so far.

There's a total of 36 states in which cases have been reported as of Tuesday, September 4, 2018. The first recall of this cereal was back in June but an additional 30 people have become sick.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is urging consumers to "check their homes and throw away any Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal." Retailers have also been asked to discard any recalled lots due to the chance of salmonella.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause symptoms such as fever, abdominal cramps, diarrhea and begin 12 to 72 hours when ingested. The symptoms last between four and seven days. Most people improve without a visit to the doctor but some may require hospitalization because of severe diarrhea.

The FDA and CDC are working with state and local health officials to investigate the source of the contamination.
