#TRENDING 12/18/25: 61% Think Holiday Regifts Are Acceptable Now

National Regifting Day: 61% Think Holiday Regifts Are Acceptable Now

If you're looking to unload that scarf you got as a gift last year and haven't worn, here's your excuse: Happy National Regifting Day! It's supposed to encourage us to give away gifts we don't really want.

"Seinfeld" coined the term in 1995, or that's at least when it got popular. Elaine got a label maker for Tim Whatley. Then he got caught regifting it to Jerry.  (Here's the scene.)

She was offended, and YOU might be too if you found out. But how do we feel about regifting in GENERAL in 2025?

A new poll found most Americans think regifting is acceptable now: 61% said it's at least "somewhat" okay. That includes 22% who said it's totally fine.

Regifts ranked lower than USED gifts though. 64% think secondhand gifts are okay. It just depends on what it is. A leather-bound first edition of their favorite book? Great gift. Used socks? Not so great.

(The poll also found 6% of us will go SNOOPING for gifts this month, and try to sneak a peek at what we're getting.)
